  • Hope Lodge Lexington

Subaru set out once again to spread hope, love and warmth by donating and delivering blankets and messages of hope cards to cancer patients being treated at hospitals across the country.  Often, patients going through cancer treatment are cold. The rooms in which they receive their treatment can be chilly and often the patients have less body fat to keep them warm. The blankets we provided can offer warmth and comfort to these patients at this difficult time in their lives.

Quantrell was honored to team up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and visit the Hope Lodge in Lexington on July 18.  The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers. More than just a roof over their heads, it's a nurturing community that helps patients access the care they need. Each Hope Lodge community offers a supportive, homelike environment where guests can share a meal, join in the evening's activities, or unwind in their own private room. Patients staying at a Hope Lodge must be in active cancer treatment, and permanently reside more than 40 miles or one hour away from their cancer treatment center. Each patient must be accompanied by a caregiver.

We want to thank each customer who took the time to write a message of hope while in the showroom during the month of June.

  • Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency of the Bluegrass

The Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency (NHOA) is a non-profit that works to improve the quality of care for 5,500 nursing home and long-term care residents in Central Kentucky.

We use the money raised through Designer Showcase to provide ombudsman services to residents.  Ombudsmen - Swedish for "advocates"- are trained and certified to listen to residents (those who are able to communicate and those who aren't) and work on their behalf to resolve problems and complaints.  They also look for signs of physical, emotional, financial, and sexual abuse.  In addition, they provide training on residents' rights to the residents themselves as well as staff.  They do all of this and more at no charge to the residents or their families.

A few other facts about the people we serve:

50 percent have Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia

60 percent have no visitors.  Ever.

    70 percent are impoverished.

    80 percent are women.

    Failure: A Love Story

By the end of 1928, all three Fail sisters will be dead -- expiring in reverse order, youngest to oldest, from blunt object to the head, disappearance, and finally consumption. A magical, musical fable where, in the end, the power of love is far greater than any individual's successes or failures.
