Subaru Electric SUV: What We Know So Far

Subaru Electric SUV

Subaru Solterra Launch Here

Even though Subaru already offers an incredible lineup of new cars and SUVs for sale, there is a new vehicle coming to the lineup that we are extremely excited about. Subaru and Toyota are collaborating to make an all-new Subaru electric SUV. That’s right. A zero emission, zero-gas electric car will be making its way to our dealership in Lexington very soon. Although we don’t know the exact release date, it is rumored that this Subaru electric vehicle will be ready to go in the summer of 2022. We know that’s a while to wait, but good things take time! Until then, read everything we know so far about the Subaru electric SUV below.

The Basics & Concept

This isn’t the first time Subaru and Toyota have joined forces. The partnership between the two brands began back in 2005, which resulted in the creation of the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ sports cars. But, don’t worry. Even though this is a collaboration, the Subaru electric SUV will be “distinctly Subaru.” It will use Toyota’s technology but incorporate Subaru values such as all-weather capability, all-wheel drive, off-road adventuring, a low center of gravity, and fun behind the wheel. This new vehicle is reported to be about the size of a Subaru Forester and will be great both in the city and off the road. Subaru is expected to debut the electric car at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2021. Word on the street is that the Subaru electric SUV name is “Evoltis.”

The Technology

The Subaru electric SUV will feature Toyota’s battery technology. Reports say it could potentially change the game by using a solid-state battery. Solid-state batteries offer more range and charge faster than traditional lithium-ion batteries but remain the same size. The projected range is expected to be just over 300 miles, which is excellent for an electric car.

The Power & Performance

Subaru is known for creating vehicles that can do it all. That is why they offer all-wheel drive standard on all of their vehicles. You can expect this new Subaru to be an electric AWD vehicle, which is a very exciting feature that other electric vehicles can’t offer. Subaru says they will also offer a front-wheel drive option for urban drivers. The electric car is expected to have a continuously variable automatic transmission that pairs with steering wheel paddle shifters to give drivers even more engagement and control on the road.

For those who like to venture off the road, the Subaru electric SUV will offer extra ground clearance to help you explore. It will also feature different modes that offer settings like snow and mud to help you with certain terrains. The low center of gravity will improve your performance on steep trails as well. Although we aren’t certain about the look, expect rugged lines and a unique style from this new car.

Subaru: An Electric Future

This vehicle won’t be the only electric vehicle you will see from Subaru. The brand plans to have 40% of its global sales be from electric or hybrid vehicles by 2030. That’s a big goal to help our planet! In order to do this, they hope to make a hybrid or electric variant of every current Subaru model by the mid-2030s. That means your favorite model will be emission free before you know it!
